Ahead of the 2026 season kickoff, Team Talent Composites are being published, providing a look at the talent and depth across an entire roster. Let’s dive in and see what we can find about Clemson’s roster, how it stacks up nationally, within the ACC, and against the 2026 schedule.

At a Glance

National Talent Rank: No. 15 — down from No. 7 in 2025

ACC Talent Rank: No. 2 — down from No. 1 in 2025

Enrollees: 23

Transfers: 11

National and ACC Perspective

Clemson enters 2026 with the nation’s No. 15 Team Talent Composite, a notable drop from No. 7 in 2025 and the program’s first ranking outside the national Top 10 in the 2020s.

Within the ACC, Clemson ranks No. 2, behind Miami at No. 9. The Tigers remain one of the conference’s most talented rosters, but the gap between Clemson and the rest of the conference has narrowed.

Talent Assessment vs. 2026 Schedule

🟢 Talent Advantage — 6 games
🟡 Competitive — 2 games
🟠 Challenge — 2 games
🔴 Talent Disadvantage — 2 games

No. 6 LSU — 🔴 Talent Disadvantage | New head coach, new QB, 60 new players

No. 74 Georgia Southern — 🟢 Talent Advantage | New QB

No. 29 North Carolina — 🟡 Competitive | 61 new players, new QB

No. 44 California — 🟢 Talent Advantage | 50 new players

No. 9 Miami — 🔴 Talent Disadvantage | New QB

FCS Charleston Southern — 🟢 Talent Advantage

No. 26 Virginia Tech — 🟡 Competitive | New head coach, new QB, 49 new players

No. 21 Florida State — 🟠 Challenge | New QB, 57 new players

No. 54 Syracuse — 🟢 Talent Advantage

No. 35 Georgia Tech — 🟢 Talent Advantage | New QB

No. 53 Duke — 🟢 Talent Advantage | New QB

No. 16 South Carolina — 🟠 Challenge

Based strictly on the talent rankings, Clemson has a Talent Advantage in 6 of 12 games, with 2 Competitive, 2 Challenges and 2 Talent Disadvantages. The four most difficult games are spread throughout the schedule, leaving less time for younger player development..

Several opponents also enter 2026 with significant transition. LSU and Virginia Tech have new head coaches, while 6 opponents are expected to start new quarterbacks. North Carolina (61), LSU (60), and Florida State (57) lead Clemson’s schedule in new players. Having talent is one thing; integrating that talent quickly enough to maximize its value is another.

Position Group Evaluation

Clemson’s position-group profile is balanced, with 5 groups ranked inside the national Top 16 and no position outside the Top 20.The strongest position groups are WR (No. 9), TE (No. 10), and OL (No. 10), giving Clemson a strong offensive foundation. The No. 8 depth ranking is particularly notable and suggests the roster has quality throughout the depth chart than the No. 15 overall talent ranking alone might indicate.

The defensive groups rank in the middle of the national Top 20 — DL No. 17, LB No. 17 and DB No. 16 — which helps explain the decision to add 9 defensive transfers. Quarterback ranks No. 19 nationally and carries additional importance with a new starter entering 2026.

Clemson doesn’t have one overwhelmingly dominant position group. Instead, the roster’s strength is its balance, depth and lack of an obvious talent hole.

Roster Outlook

Clemson’s overall talent ranking has declined from No. 7 to No. 15, putting the Tigers outside the national elite tier for the first time this decade. The bigger question is what Clemson does with the talent it has. The Tigers must replace the production and experience of 9 NFL Draft picks, while also breaking in a new starting quarterback.

There is, however, a significant continuity advantage. Clemson added 34 new players, one of the lowest totals among the Power Four teams on its schedule. That continuity was paired with targeted transfer additions: 9 of Clemson’s 11 transfers were on defense, the first time the Tigers have used the portal to that extent. Offensively, Clemson begins a new chapter with Chad Morris as offensive coordinator and a new starting quarterback.

The combination of roster continuity, targeted portal additions and a strong depth profile gives Clemson a solid foundation. The challenge is turning that talent into production.

Lastly, these talent rankings should not be viewed as a prediction of wins and losses. In 2025, Duke and Virginia played for the ACC Championship with rosters ranked No. 49 and No. 59, respectively, while Clemson and Miami — ranked No. 7 and No. 15 — watched from home. Talent establishes a baseline; coaching, development and execution determine how much of that talent ultimately shows up on the field.
