In the preseason, wins and losses take a back seat to individual performances, with roster spots and playing time up for grabs for a number of Indianapolis Colts players.
After a joint practice on Tuesday, the Colts open up the preseason on the road in New England. With strong showings in tonight's game, these three players more than anyone else have the most to gain.
QB Anthony Richardson
Richardson will get the start against the Patriots and play the entire first half before Riley Leonard takes over. A strong showing won't only position Richardson well in the backup quarterback competition, but with his trade request still on the table, a good performance could help faciliate some movement in that regard as well.
RB Seth McGowan
DJ Giddens has been sidelined with a hamstring injury, giving McGowan more opportunities in the backup running back role. By all accounts, he's performed well and continuing to do so in a game could create even more separation in the backup running back competition.
K Blake Grupe
In terms of makes and misses at this point in training camp, Grupe holds a fairly distinct advantage over Spencer Shrader. Another strong showing in a game setting could further widen the gap between the two.
