After some time away, the Washington Commanders returned to the practice field for another day of training camp on Tuesday. After Friday’s preseason-opening win over the Miami Dolphins, the Commanders had a couple of days off, with only a walkthrough practice over the weekend.

Several players missed practice on Tuesday, but the Commanders did get center Nick Allegretti and tight end John Bates back. Because of the injuries, Washington made roster moves ahead of practice, including adding four new players.

Something unusual happened during Tuesday’s practice as teammates on the same side of the ball got into a little scuffle. According to Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic, Charles Omenihu and Javontae Jean-Baptiste were angry with one another at the end of practice. Fortunately, cooler heads did prevail.

As for what happened during practice, here are four standouts from Day 12.

T Brandon Coleman

Coleman enters his second full week since being put back at left tackle. After starting Friday’s preseason opener, Coleman returned Tuesday to continue his reacclimation at tackle after starting camp at guard. He had a good day. It’s worth noting that Odafe Oweh and K’Lavon Chaisson didn’t practice. Still, Coleman continued to gain valuable reps on Tuesday and looked the part.

My confidence in Brandon Coleman is only growing after watching him in the game Friday, and a few 1on1's\11on11's at camp. He's able to match quickness with speed edge rushers and has a strong enough set to hold up against the power guys. I hope I don't get cold takes exposed on…

EDGE Joshua Josephs

How many times have we heard the fifth-round rookie’s name this summer? He flashed again on Tuesday, making several plays in practice. He only keeps getting better and took advantage of his increased snaps with Oweh and Chaisson out. Josephs began camp as a talented developmental prospect, but he continues to work himself into Washington’s plans this season.

S Percy Butler

Percy Butler said, “Hey, don’t forget about me.” The fifth-year safety, who stars on special teams, took advantage of his defensive snaps on Tuesday, ending practice with an impressive one-handed interception. With so much of the safety talk centering around Nick Cross, Quan Martin, Will Harris and Jeremy Reaves, Butler wanted to throw his name in the mix. Butler has played safety at times for the Commanders, but focuses mostly on special teams, where he is a key leader.
