Some players never want to hang things up, even when all signs point to them needing to. That's the case for former Boston Red Sox veteran Rich Hill, who saw himself in the league for a ridiculous 21 years. Hill had multiple stops in Boston, first doing so from the 2010 to 2012 seasons. He later returned to the Red Sox in 2022 and was also a member of the team in 2024. There's a reason why teams continued to sign him throughout his 21-year career, including the Red Sox when he was 44 years old. While he started to struggle a bit toward the back end of his career, the left-hander, who had been used as a starter and reliever, starting in 250 games out of the 388 that he appeared in, had a nice career for himself. However, it's probably fair to say that it's time for him to truly hang them up. Despite that, it doesn't sound like the 46-year-old is set on doing so at the moment. “You can only do this for so long," Hill said, per SI. "And if you feel like you can maybe — Taylor Rogers up in Toronto has given me hope to come back as a submariner,” Rich Hill said, H/T SI. ”If it does [happen], great," Hill said. "If it doesn't, I don't have to ask the question, what if?" It's interesting that he understands he can only do this for so long, but he'd still welcome a potential reunion in Major League Baseball. It's certainly possible that a team down the stretch tries to call on him just to get outs if they're dealing with injuries, though it doesn't really feel like a contender should be going after a 46-year-old.
