The San Francisco 49ers sat Brock Purdy and Mac Jones for their preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans at Levi's Stadium on Thursday, leaving Kurtis Rourke and Adrian Martinez as the two active quarterbacks for the contest.
While Rourke looked great early on, he left the game with a rib injury, and after it ended, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that he went to the hospital.
Friday morning, the 49ers announced that Rourke was discharged Thursday night after dealing with shortness of breath. Shanahan also revealed that initial imaging didn't show a break, and he didn't seem to be concerned about adding another quarterback.
Rourke played less than two quarters in his NFL debut after missing all of his rookie season while recovering from a torn ACL. He completed 85.7% of his passes for 101 yards and rushed for an additional 14 yards on three carries. His performance was especially impressive considering the Titans played a lot of starters in the game.
If he's healthy, he looks like a lock for the third-string quarterback job.
