The NBA on Thursday unveiled the complete game and broadcast schedule for the 2026-27 regular season, which tips off Oct. 20 with a triple-header on NBC and Peacock.

The 81st regular season concludes on April 11, with the play-in tournament set for the week that follows. The first round of the playoffs will start after the play-in tournament concludes and will culminate in the 2027 NBA Finals in June.

The NBA started rolling out the game and national television schedule for select dates on Monday, including opening week, Christmas Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The league also revealed a quadruple-header for Presidents Day on Feb. 15.

The fourth annual in-season tournament will begin on Oct. 30. Starting this year, the quarterfinals (Dec. 4-5) and semifinals (Dec. 8-9) take place in team markets, with the championship (Dec. 11) set to be hosted at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The annual schedule release marks a key moment for teams around the league as the dates of several marquee matchups become known. The unveiling also gives us our initial look at when we can expect the 2026 NBA draft to take the floor for the first time.

With a talented group of players set to enter the NBA, headlined by top picks AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson and Cameron Boozer, the upcoming season should feature plenty of intriguing rookie matchups. Rookie Wire identified some of the most highly anticipated games.

Debut of AJ Dybantsa

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - JULY 09: AJ Dybantsa #4 of the Washington Wizards is guarded by Cody Williams #5 of the Utah Jazz in the first half of a 2026 NBA Summer League game at the Thomas & Mack Center on July 09, 2026 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Date: Oct. 21

Holding the distinction of No. 1 overall pick, AJ Dybantsa should draw plenty of attention when the Wizards tip off their regular-season slate against the Milwaukee Bucks. He was considered the front-runner to be the top pick for much of last season after dazzling behind a record-setting freshman campaign at BYU. Considering the Wizards are expected to be on the rise following the additions of Anthony Davis and Trae Young, the Wizards should be a fun team to watch. As a result, the Wizards will have six nationally televised games, with their first set for Nov. 9 against the Detroit Pistons.

Cameron Boozer vs. Darryn Peterson

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - JULY 19: Cameron Boozer #27 of the Memphis Grizzlies shoots against Graham Ike #45 of the Golden State Warriors in the second half of the 2026 NBA Summer League championship game at the Thomas & Mack Center on July 19, 2026 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Date: Oct. 21

Opening night will feature one of the top rookie matchups of the season when No. 3 overall pick Cameron Boozer and the Memphis Grizzlies host No. 2 pick Darryn Peterson and the Utah Jazz. Boozer and Peterson highlight a stacked top of the draft this year and should draw plenty of hype each time they step on the court this season for their respective teams.

Peterson tallied 25 points and 12 assists to lead the Jazz to a win on July 9 over the Grizzlies and Boozer, who had 18 points and seven rebounds. Afterward, Peterson said he knew Boozer would likely have an "agenda" in that game since he was picked right after him, so that motivation should certainly carry over into the regular season, making for an exciting matchup to tip off the season.

Caleb Wilson Faces an Idol

Mar 29, 2026; Denver, Colorado, USA; Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic (15) controls the ball as Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green (23) guards in the third quarter at Ball Arena.

Date: Nov. 22

Caleb Wilson has studied plenty of players over the years, but the No. 4 overall pick by the Chicago Bulls spent perhaps the most time watching three-time MVP Nikola Jokić. He jokingly said at the draft combine that he wasn't all that athletic growing up and would learn how to play by watching Jokić, even before he led the Denver Nuggets to the title in 2023. The Bulls' first matchup against Jokić and the Nuggets will be rather meaningful for Wilson, and it should be a fun one to watch.

Bonus Coverage

Wilson has also said that he kept a list of players whom he wanted to beat in college at North Carolina, including Darryn Peterson, who the Bulls will face for the first time on Dec 16. Knowing Wilson kept such a list in college, you can absolutely bet that he will do the same in the NBA and that Peterson, along with the other two players drafted ahead of him, will be on there. (The Bulls play AJ Dybantsa and the Washington Wizards on Oct. 24 and Cameron Boozer and the Memphis Grizzlies on March 13.)

Michigan Alums Facing Off

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - JULY 19: Yaxel Lendeborg #1 of the Golden State Warriors celebrates after his team's victory over the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2026 NBA Summer League championship game at the Thomas & Mack Center on July 19, 2026 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Warriors defeated the Grizzlies 94-90. Date: Jan. 24

With three former Michigan players taken in the first round, there will be several matchups to watch throughout the season, but we opted to highlight the first meeting between Golden State Warriors forward Yaxel Lendeborg and Oklahoma City Thunder center Aday Mara. They already matched up against each other in summer league, with Lendeborg (14 points) getting the best of Mara (10 points, nine rebounds) on July 12. He even splashed a 3-pointer over Mara and then proceeded to let him know about it, as only he could.

Lendeborg will also face former teammate Morez Johnson Jr. and Dallas for the first time on Nov. 18, while Johnson will see Mara for the first time on Oct. 28.

AJ Dybantsa vs. Darryn Peterson

Darryn Peterson #22 of the Utah Jazz drives between Will Riley (L) #27 and Felix Okpara #34 of the Washington Wizards in the first half of a 2026 NBA Summer League game at the Thomas & Mack Center on July 09, 2026 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Date: Feb. 2 (Prime)

Every year, some of the most intriguing rookie matchups involve the top two picks, and this year should prove no different when No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa and the Washington Wizards face Darryn Peterson and the Utah Jazz for the first of two matchups on Feb. 2.

The two are quite familiar with each other after Peterson helped Kansas to a win over Dybantsa and BYU on Jan. 31. They also faced off last month and combined for 51 points, which was only the second time that the top two picks scored 20 or more points in the same summer league game.

Dybantsa and Peterson will certainly both have their first regular-season meeting highlighted on the calendar. Their respective teams both have increased expectations for the upcoming year, and the two cornerstones should both play key roles on the court.
