Denver Broncos majority owner and CEO Greg Penner spoke with reporters during Tuesday's training camp practice, providing an update on the team's upcoming stadium project. “[W]e’re making some progress, especially on the things that are really in our control," Penner said. "You all saw the property that we closed on yesterday which was an important step. Really good progress with our architect and also the master plan. This is a process for some of the other steps that we need a lot of collaboration with different groups, whether it be the CBA process, Denver Water relocation, city approvals — there’s still a lot of work to do, and the 2031 timeline is aggressive. We can’t do it by ourselves.” If the Broncos are going to hit that 2031 timeline, they would likely need to begin building in 2027. Here are six other quick takeaways from Penner's media availability. 1. Denver Water remains a holdout: The Broncos recently purchased about 10 acres from SRM Concrete (at a big price), and Denver Water is now one of the last remaining holdouts at the Burnham Yard site. In addition to reaching an agreement on the property, the Broncos need to help find a new location for the water utility company. "Denver Water, obviously, serves a critical function for the city, so it’s important that their operations are seamless and uninterrupted," Penner said. "Anytime you’re moving operations and moving to several locations, it’s complex. So we’re doing everything we can to support them so that we can make that move, help them make that move on a timely basis.” 2. Broncos want a retractable-roof stadium with natural grass: Penner reiterated that he and his wife, co-owner Carrie Walton-Penner, want fans to be able to enjoy outdoor Colorado weather in the new stadium. So the team is prioritizing a retractable-roof design that would allow for growing natural grass. The team also wants to have the roof big enough for skydivers to continue landing on the field before games. 3. Broncos haven't decided on PSLs yet: Team president Damani Leech has said the team will "likely" have fans purchase personal seat licenses (PSLs) for season tickets, but Penner indicated no decision has been made on that front. “Really, it’s the furthest thing from our minds right now," Penner said. "We’re so focused on... We’ve had so many steps before that, as I just mentioned. It’s still a preferred site, but it’s not finalized that we’re going to be in that location. Obviously, that’s where we really want to be. So really, we haven’t even gotten to PSLs yet. Our season ticket holders are vital to our organization and we’re going to keep them informed every step of the way once we get there.” 4. Players love the new facility: Penner was asked if the new facility would make players too comfortable. He brushed off that notion by quipping: “Well, I think you’ve met our head coach." Denver's ownership group spent $175 million on a state-of-the-art facility that has been well-received by the players. "Everything we can do to support the players in this building — out on the field they’re going to work their tails off," Penner said. "So I’m not worried about them not working hard enough. I don’t think that will be an issue. Any time we’re going to — whether it’s this facility, a new stadium — we’re trying to raise the expectations, and our expectation is [that] we want to win championships, and we’re going to do everything it takes and provide the resources that are necessary to do it.” 5. Broncos want Bo Nix with the club long-term: Nix will be eligible for a contract extension next spring, following his third season in the NFL. He's currently signed through the 2027 season, and his rookie deal includes a fifth-year option for the 2028 campaign. "Obviously, we want Bo here long-term, but we’re really focused on getting ready for this season, putting a competitive team on the field," Pener said. "I’ll leave that to George [Paton] and Sean [Payton], [they] will have conversations about it, but I’ll leave that up to them to lead.” Nix will have to finish the 2026 season before even becoming eligible for an extension. 6. Greg Penner expects to win Super Bowls: Penner said the Broncos have "all the pieces" and "the right culture" to win in 2026 and beyond. "Again, we’re providing the right resources," Penner said. "You always need a little bit of luck, and you just have to go out and perform." Denver's ownership group has poured countless resources into the club in an effort to build a winning franchise. "[O]ur goal is to compete for championships every year," Penner said. "If we put ourselves in that position, I think we’re going to be successful, and we’re going to win Super Bowls.” The journey to Super Bowl LXI kicks off on Friday evening when the Broncos open their preseason slate on the road against the Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
