Jun 20, 2026; Atlanta, Georgia, USA; Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22) yells at the referee after a call during the game against the Atlanta Dream during the fourth quarter at State Farm Arena. Mandatory Credit: Jordan Godfree-Imagn Images The Indiana Fever have been one of the best teams in the WNBA over the second half of the season. Unfortunately, the team has been covered relentlessly all season for reasons that have nothing to do with basketball. As of late, the discourse has centered on reserve guard Sophie Cunningham’s stance on transgender athletes participating in women’s sports, and a call for head coach Stephanie White to be favored. On Friday, one of the talking points from the beginning of the campaign resurfaced: the league’s perceived refusal to adequately market superstar point guard Caitlin Clark. Ahead of its Friday evening broadcast of the Fever-Dallas Wings game, Ion shared a promotional graphic for the game on X, featuring Fever players Raven Johnson and Lexie Hull. Clay Travis, who always seems to have something to say about the WNBA but rarely anything about the basketball being played, took exception to Clark’s absence on the graphic. “The WNBA refusing to promote Caitlin Clark is impossible to explain,” Travis posted on X. “Imagine the NBA not using Jordan, Kobe or LeBron when promoting their teams. Just a league run by woke morons.”

Travis certainly wasn’t alone. Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy asked if the WNBA was “trolling.” For her part, Fever head coach Stephanie White has already addressed the outside noise surrounding the league, and didn’t mince words, either. “The hate, the fearmongering, the divisiveness, the stuff that’s trying to hijack our league will not win,” she said in a pregame presser on Tuesday. “It won’t win. We are united. We are connected. We will not be divided… “When they go low, we go high. Love will win. Grace will win. Humility will win. And kindness will win.” The post ‘A league run by woke morons’: WNBA faces criticism for ‘refusing to promote’ Caitlin Clark appeared first on The Comeback: Today’s Top Sports Stories & Reactions.
