NORMAL, Ala. (WHNT) — With fans in the stands and refs on the field, the Alabama A&M Bulldogs defense dominated the second scrimmage of fall camp. After a fast first drive that ended in a touchdown, the Bulldogs defense made several big stops including a crucial fourth-and-goal situation at the goal line.
NFL suspends Falcons’ James Pearce Jr. after arrest in domestic dispute "It was good to see our defense come together. Not just our first group, but our second group also did a good job," Head Coach Sam Shade said. "I think it's just we're at that point in camp where everything's really coming together." Shade said the A&M offense kept things pretty vanilla with starting quarterback Quad Brown playing sparingly. It was the same stick-to-the-basics approach that gave the defense a successful showing. "I thought they were playing really good sound assignment football, I mean, and they were all in their gaps. That's how they got the big stop on fourth down at the goal line," Shade said. "Everybody was where they were supposed to be, and guys stepped up and made plays when they had that opportunity." As the Bulldogs wrap up the second scrimmage of fall camp, it's time for them to turn to the next chapter of the season. Shade said the team will shift its focus to Howard and that some tough decisions are coming as far as cutting down reps to the two-deep on the roster. "We've been really just in competition mode. Ones against ones, twos against twos. That's really what we've been doing so far. But we'll start working some scout team stuff, so we'll start running some Howard defense, some Howard offense in practice," Shade said. "We've definitely got to make some decisions on who's going to go out there first and who's going to be second." Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
