An Alabama high school football coach has resigned from his position just days after being arrested for public intoxication at a high school football preseason jamboree. On Monday, Aug. 17, Guntersville High School football defensive coordinator and associate head coach Jerry Fulks submitted his resignation to the Guntersville City Board of Education during a special called meeting, according to a statement from the Guntersville City School System obtained by AL.com. "Effective immediately, Mr. Fulks is no longer employed by Guntersville City Schools," the statement said. "Because this is a personnel matter, Guntersville City Schools will not comment further regarding the circumstances surrounding his resignation." USA TODAY Sports has reached out to GCSS for comment and is awaiting a response. Fulks, who was entering his first season with Guntersville, was arrested on Friday, Aug. 14, after attempting to access the field at Arab High School, telling officers he was a member of the media. After officers determined Fulks was intoxicated, he was arrested and charged with public intoxication. He was taken to Marshall County Jail and was bonded out on Saturday, Aug. 15.
