Williams Racing has announced extension of contract with Alexander Albon for the 2027 F1 season, as the season resumes post summer break.
While speculation around Carlos Sainz continues, Williams has completed one piece of the puzzle by confirming Albon for 2027 F1 season. It means, the Thai racer will complete six years with the Grove-based outfit at the end of 2027, making him one of the longest to race with the British outfit.
Albon joined Williams back in 2022 after a year out from F1 post his stint with Red Bull. He has been the mainstay of the British outfit, while his teammates have kept on changing. After running alongside rookies, he found a race winner in the form of Sainz alongside from 2025 onward.
Good F1 2025 season with Williams
He did well against the Spaniard to secure his best result of eighth – with Williams – in drivers’ standings in 2025. It has been a difficult run in 2026 so far, after the British team failed to extend on its fine run from last season. The team skipped the Barcelona shakedown as they were not ready.
They made it for the Bahrain F1 tests, but it was evident that they are at the back of the field, as seen in the first half of the 2026 season. They have 11 points in their kitty, sitting ninth in the constructors’ standings, with Albon in 16th in the drivers’ standings, with five points.
Albon, Vowles say after new contract with Williams F1
“Since joining Atlassian Williams F1 Team in 2022, the transformation this team has made is difficult to put into words,” said Albon, after the announcement. “One tough year doesn’t tell the full picture, and it only gives me more motivation to keep building and pushing together with the factory and our fans to achieve great things.
“Our story is not over yet, so my full focus now is on doing whatever it takes to get us back up the grid.” At the same time, Williams F1 team principal James Vowles added: “I am delighted that Alex and Atlassian Williams F1 Team are continuing our extraordinary journey together.
“Alex has been a leader of this transformation project since day one and we have plenty of unfinished business that we are determined to achieve. Alex is one of the best drivers on the grid and knows better than anyone the enormous improvements we have made in recent years – re-signing him shows the belief we both have in the direction we are heading.”
