Texas entered preseason camp with enough talent to chase a college football national championship, but one practice exit can quickly change the calculation.
Starting left tackle Trevor Goosby left Monday’s workout with an apparent knee injury, according to Orangebloods’ Anwar Richardson, placing fresh attention on the most important position along the Longhorns’ offensive line.
Until Texas provides a diagnosis, Goosby’s health will remain one of the biggest stories surrounding Steve Sarkisian’s team before the season opener against Texas State.

Texas awaits clarity on Trevor Goosby’s knee injury
Richardson reported Monday that Goosby left practice with what appeared to be a knee injury. He is scheduled for testing Tuesday morning. The initial report did not identify which knee was hurt or explain how the injury occurred.
Goosby is scheduled to undergo testing Tuesday morning, which Richardson wrote should provide more clarity. As of that report, however, Orangebloods did not know the injury’s severity. Texas had not announced a diagnosis, recovery timeline or change to Goosby’s status for the season opener.
That uncertainty makes it important to avoid reading too much into the limited information. Goosby could have left practice for precautionary reasons. An extended absence also remained possible before the testing results became known.
Goosby also spent part of the offseason recovering from shoulder surgery before returning to practice. For now, Texas can only wait for a clearer medical update while preparing its alternatives up front.
Goosby gives Texas stability around Arch Manning
Goosby is not simply one of five starters. He is the proven piece Texas can least afford to lose.
The 6-foot-7, 325-pound lineman started all 13 games at left tackle in 2025 and earned first-team All-SEC honors from the league’s coaches. Pro Football Focus gave him an 83.6 overall grade and charged him with 16 pressures and three sacks allowed. Texas lists him with 30 career appearances and 15 starts.
His rise is one of the staff’s best development stories. Goosby arrived from Melissa, Texas, as a three-star prospect in 2023. He redshirted, then replaced Kelvin Banks Jr. at left tackle against Texas A&M and Georgia late in 2024. He also filled in at right tackle during the College Football Playoff.
Goosby returned for 2026 rather than enter the NFL draft, giving Arch Manning an experienced blindside protector while Texas rebuilt the line around him. Richardson wrote that a prolonged absence could force offensive line coach Kyle Flood to move Brandon Baker from left guard to tackle and return Cole Hutson to left guard. Transfer Melvin Siani is the other projected starting tackle.
Texas faces Ohio State and Tennessee in September. Losing Goosby for significant time would take away its best blocker, weaken Manning’s blindside protection. It would also further complicate an offensive line that must improve for the Longhorns to meet their championship expectations.
