'Almost there': £30m midfielder deal moves closer

Liverpool’s midfield options could look a lot different by the time the summer transfer window closes.

It remains to be seen whether a deal will be concluded which would take Alexis Mac Allister way from Anfield. And fringe players like Stefan Bajcetic and Harvey Elliott could be on their way too.

Bajcetic is wanted by Getafe with no decision as yet made by Liverpool regarding the Spaniard’s future.

Elliott meanwhile does not appear to have grasped his preseason chance under Andoni Iraola and it would be no surprise if bids were heard for the 23-year-old.

Young talents like Trey Nyoni and James McConnell could depart on loan.

Curtis Jones issue needs to be resolved

But the biggest issue to resolve is that of Curtis Jones.

The 25-year-old hasn’t been spotted since a disastrous 45-minute outing against Leeds during the preseason tour of the United States.

Liverpool maintain that the England international has got a hip injury but Inter Milan are working away in the background on a deal for the playmaker.

Jones to Inter: "Almost there"

Jones was wanted by the Italian champions back in January but ultimately stayed put.

With less than a year left on his contract however Liverpool risk losing Jones for nothing if no agreement can be reached on a new deal.

Accordingly Inter head coach Cristian Chivu has sensed his opportunity - with Inter now confident of lowering Liverpool’s demands for their homegrown talent.

That’s according to Italian reporter Gianluigi Longari who claims that a deal to take Jones to San Siro is “almost there".

£30 FREECLAIM NOW

Jones has got a total agreement with Inter

“Curtis Julian Jones has chosen Inter months ago, as anticipated in an exclusive report back in February,” he writes on X.

“Total agreement on personal terms and intermediaries confident in lowering Liverpool's demands.

“Starting today, Inter ready to make the decisive move with contacts with the Reds.

“Almost there.”

Jones could be sold for £30m

Liverpool had been holding out for around £35m for Jones - a reasonable sum for the two-time Premier League champion. The Nerazzurri have always been reluctant to go that high - and it’s believed a deal is now in reach for around £30m.

As mentioned above personal terms won’t be a problem for Jones - who seems to have his heart set on a transfer to Serie A.

This week could prove crucial in club-to-club talks as Inter set about assembling a package which could finally satisfy Richard Hughes and Liverpool.
