Will Evans scored 11 goals in all competitions for Mansfield Town last season [Shutterstock] Plymouth Argyle striker Will Evans is confident he will score goals at his new club. The 29-year-old moved to Home Park from Mansfield Town last week and made his debut in the 2-0 Carabao Cup first-round win over Exeter City. Evans drew praise for his work-rate but was guilty of missing a number of good chances to score during the match, which Argyle eventually won thanks to two goals in second-half stoppage time. "I know that at least one, maybe two of those chances should be hitting the back of the net," he told BBC Radio Devon ahead of Saturday's opening League One game against Stockport County. "I've given myself a little bit of leeway with the fact that it's been a hectic week, I came down on the Friday, meeting new players, fitting into new systems, new ideas, new tactics. "There's a lot of information that perhaps people don't see on the outside, so it's one of them. "I'm not too worried about that, I know the goals will come. I'll never let anyone question my work rate and what I give for the team. "It was one of them where I wanted to make a bit of a statement to say that I'm not a pushover, I've not just come down here to have a jolly up. "I want to prove to myself, to the fans, to my team-mates that I'll be an excellent addition."

Plymouth boss Cleverley will improve Evans' finishing Plymouth sign Mansfield's Evans on two-year deal

Argyle manager Tom Cleverley has pledged to help improve Evans' finishing as he looks to follow in the footsteps of Lorent Tolaj and Bim Pepple, who had excellent campaigns under the Plymouth boss last season. The Welsh forward got the opening goal when Mansfield beat Plymouth 2-0 at Field Mill at the end of October, a performance which turned out to be critical to his move to Home Park this summer. "I scored in that game and managers have a chat after the game and I remember Nigel Clough coming into training the next day and he just said 'he was a big fan of you' and that's pretty much as far as it went. "It was probably like a passing compliment, but I didn't really know of the concrete interest until probably a few weeks ago." He added: "I had a good chat with him [Cleverley] before I came down about what he wants from me for the team and what he can do to improve me. "As much as you might say I'm an experienced striker, I'm only going into my fifth year as a professional footballer. "So, yes, life experience, perhaps I've got a bit of an upper hand, I've played in some big fixtures over my career, some memories I'll take to the grave that will live long in the memory. "But I've still got that desire and want to learn and want to improve, that's just my mentality. It's the type of bloke I am that I don't want to take an easy route."
