When Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made headlines at the start of camp in Oxnard by stating that he would trade future draft capital for a "substantive" trade, some - haunted by the old "all-in'' promise - were not buying it. But Jones has made an effort to deliver ... with maybe more deliveries on the way. The Cowboys just signed former All-Pro pass rusher Von Miller, giving coordinator Christian Parker another weapon to use, albeit on a limited basis as Von is 37 years old. Likely seen as a designated pass rusher, Miller can still bring something to this defense, though, and is the type of move fans have wanted the front office to make for years. The news of Miller's signing is now causing many to think that this would be the end of the Cowboys looking to make a big splash move, say, for someone like Maxx Crosby or Jordyn Brooks. READ MORE:
Cowboys' Brian Schottenheimer Evaluates QB Competition After Seahawks Win However, that might not be the case. When asked on Monday whether he would still move future draft capital to make a substantive trade, Jerry, speaking after the Miller signing, made quite the headline-grabbing comment. "Yes, yes, if we had the opportunity, I would be," Jerry said. "It's as much about what I think of where we are, which I am much more positive than when we started camp, seriously, of what our chances are. Charles Haley 2.0? Can Cowboys 'Spell Super Bowl' With Von Miller Signing? So that tells us that Jerry is still very much open for business this offseason, and the fact that even after the Miller signing, Jones is still willing to make another big move? Some skepticism is merited. But ... his intentions seem clear. Now, whether that happens or not, we don't know, but those Crosby and Brooks rumors just won't go away, and with Jerry publicly stating he is still shopping, everyone should be on alert. By the way, on Monday, coach Brian Schottenheimer echoed Jerry's words, saying "We're not done'' regarding roster-building. As we've argued often, it is obvious that Jones' Cowboys' front office is moving differently this offseason, with assertiveness and aggressiveness and a willing to spend. ... and a willingness to give up future draft assets to improve the team now. "All in''? Those two words are a mouthful. "We're not done''? Those three words might just ring true.
