“How are they gonna allow her to curse on TV? There are kids watching this, fine her,” one fan wrote, part of a wave of replies that ranged from mild annoyance to calls for league discipline.
Reese finished the first half with seven points on 3-of-10 shooting, nine rebounds and three assists. Not exactly clean numbers, but her fingerprints were all over Atlanta’s 7-0 closing burst that carried the Dream into the locker room with a four-point lead. Allisha Gray, Madina Okot and Rhyne Howard did the heavy scoring, and Reese credited all three by name in her interview.
Analyst Monica McNutt praised Reese’s shift in energy as the reason Atlanta’s defense picked up, while Chiney Ogwumike called it contagious. The read did not sit well with Fever fans who watched Reese shoot 3-of-10 while Clark quietly matched her production on far fewer misses. Reese still finished with a respectable double-double, 15 points, 14 rebounds and six assists, but on 5-of-16 shooting that told its own story about the night.
Indiana closed it out in overtime behind Kelsey Mitchell, who hit a go-ahead layup with 13.6 seconds left to seal a 95-91 win, the Fever’s fourth straight. Clark finished with 26 points and nine assists, continuing to own the moments that matter most against Atlanta.
None of this changes what Reese is this season, a three-time All-Star still putting up career numbers inside. The rivalry with Clark has followed both players since their college days at LSU and Iowa, through two national championship meetings and now three WNBA seasons of matchups that rarely stay quiet.
