The rivalry between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese saw the latest outing go the Indiana Fever’s way. However, despite the Atlanta Dream putting up a hard fight, the attention from fans was instead on a key sequence between the two stars, leading to them questioning officials.

With about 4:10 remaining in the first quarter of the game between the Dream and Fever on August 16, Clark and Reese were in the paint as the Atlanta star positioned herself to rebound the ball. Upon resistance from Clark, Reese appeared to make contact with Clark and shove her away, but when Clark turned to the refs for a foul call, no whistle sounded.

Clips of the incident quickly went viral, spreading all over social media as fans flooded in to comment on the incident. One such post from@BrickCenter_ on X earned over 344,000 views, showing just how controversial the sequence was. However, what made the moment more interesting was the eventual outcome of the game, with the Fever winning 95-91.

Clark ultimately led the Fever with 26 points and nine assists, but Angel Reese struggled, finishing with 15 points on 5-for-16 shooting, including an 0-for-6 start, but was still effective with 14 rebounds.

Ultimately, that was the downfall for the Dream, who ended up losing the game in overtime, following several missed late-game shots. Allisha Gray led them in scoring after tying a career-high 32 points in a losing effort. As the Dream lost, the on-court interaction between Caitlin Clark and Reese prompted fans to flood the comment section.

WNBA Fans Upset Over Angel Reese’s Physical Exchange With Caitlin Clark

The reaction to the first-quarter exchange between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese was anything but positive. Though some fans thought that the battle for the board was a routine sequence, many saw the grab and shove from Reese as going beyond basketball.

“A lot of this stuff is media tryna find narratives but that def looked a little personal,” one fan wrote, highlighting the overly physical nature of the play. Of course, the rivalry between Clark and Reese played into it as well.

Another fan was convinced that the interaction warranted a foul, but accepted that it would be the best outcome, writing, “Yeah, this is not ideal, but it was so quick — it’s not like Reese was strangling her. At best, it’s a common foul; at worst, it was as it was (a no-call).”

Many saw Reese as responsible for the hard contact, and did not mince words when describing the play. One such comment read, “If she’s not grabbing her own rebounds she’s really a 💩 player and a dirty player,” while another was a harsh label applied to her, reading, “Angel still playing dirty!”

Some fans also focused on the decision from the refs not to call a foul. Notably, the sequence took place right in front of two officials, but neither blew their whistle, and fans quickly took notice.

“Normal…. Ref looking directly at her… ignores it!!!! Ridiculous,” one such fan posted.

However, one reaction highlighted an intriguing reason as to why the sequence might have carried some extra frustration from Reese. Just a few moments ago, at about 5:36 in the first, Clark had hit a deep three off the dribble despite being contested by Reese, leading a fan to conclude, “Probably because Caitlin Clark cook her earlier in the game.”

Regardless of how the game turned out for each side, the matchup showed just why every battle between Reese and Clark is going to receive far more scrutiny than just one grabbing a rebound over the other.
