Another exciting contract extension has been announced by Manchester City

Manchester City have spent this off-season renewing the contracts of players are important players in their squad for both now and the future. Abdukodir Khusanov, Josko Gvardiol, and Phil Foden have all committed their futures to the club by signing long-term contract extensions. Today, City announced that Jeremy Doku has followed suit. The Belgian international has signed a contract extension with Manchester City which runs until 2031. That is exciting news and based on Enzo Maresca’s tactical set up which was on display during City’s preseason matches, Doku could be about to take yet another step as a player.

Jeremy Doku is the latest player to commit his future to Manchester City.

Manchester City have announced that Jeremy Doku has signed a five-year contract extension with the club. Since signing for City from Rennes in the summer of 2023, Doku has gone from strength to strength as a player. He began life as a tantalizing, but inconsistent, winger for Pep Guardiola’s side. Last season was his breakout campaign as a City player. Doku scored 8 goals and added 14 assists in 47 appearances in all competitions. Also, Doku became a more consistent player, which made him an infinitely more dangerous proposition for Manchester City’s opponents.

Speaking with mancity.com after his contract extension was announced, Jeremy Doku spoke of how much he has loved his time at Manchester City. The exhilarating winger spoke of how much he has grown as a player and a person. He added that he is excited to get to work with Manchester City’s new manager Enzo Maresca. Doku told mancity.com: “I have loved my time at City so far, so to have the opportunity to stay for longer is a fantastic feeling.”

“This club means so much to me – I have developed as both a player and a person. I feel settled here, and I know I am improving every day because of the work the staff here do.”

“It’s hard to explain just how much this club does to help players. I don’t take it for granted and it makes me better.”

“With Enzo here now I am really excited about the new season. His style of football is the kind we love, so that’s exciting for the players.”

Jeremy Doku took a giant leap as a player last season and he could be poised to another under Enzo Maresca.

Last season was by far and away the best of Jeremy Doku’s young career. The Belgian winger solidified himself as one of the most dangerous wingers in the Premier League and European football. Doku has always had the talent and potential to be that type of player.

Jeremy Doku is blessed with tremendous speed and acceleration. Doku’s dribbling ability, strength and trickery make him a nightmare for opposition defenders. Doku’s end product improved dramatically last season as did his consistency. The Belgian international is the total package and hopefully he can take another leap forward this season.

There is every chance that Doku could take another leap as a player during the 2026-27 season. Enzo Maresca’s system is designed to maximise the one-on-one opportunities for wingers. Jeremy Doku is a nightmare for defenders to contain when in those situations. If Manchester City can create the chances for Doku to drive at full-backs on a consistent basis, there is nothing to suggest that Doku will not become an even bigger attacking force under Enzo Maresca.

Jeremy Doku is the latest player to commit his future to Manchester City. Doku has earned a contract extension which runs until the summer of 2031. Doku is already a prominent player for Enzo Maresca’s side. However, there is the potential for him to take an even bigger step under Enzo Maresca and become a truly elite winger.
