After Monday’s big Cubs win, which moved them to within 4.5 games of the division lead, I thought it would be a good time to revisit this.
The Brewers have 37 games remaining, the Cubs 36. As a reminder, the Brewers lead the season series with the Cubs four games to two, and the teams play each other seven times — four at Wrigley Field at the end of this month, three in Milwaukee a week later. The Cubs would have to win five of the seven to take the season series and thus have the tiebreaker against the Brewers.
Per Tankathon, the Cubs have the toughest remaining schedule, with upcoming opponents at .530 and the Brewers dropping from fourth toughest to ninth toughest at .513 since the last upcoming schedule post, after they went 3-4 against the Padres and Dodgers last week.
Both teams have winning records at home and on the road, and the teams now have basically the same number of home and away games remaining. The Cubs have also nearly caught up to the Brewers in run differential. Milwaukee is at +130 entering Thursday’s action and the Cubs are +115.
Here are the remaining schedules for the Cubs and Brewers, beginning with today’s games (note that both will play the Mariners this week!). Home games in boldface.
