Arsenal are in talks to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Jarell Quansah this summer, according to Sky Sports. Mikel Arteta wants the Gunners to make centre-back reinforcements for the Emirates Stadium club. Arsenal star William Saliba picked up a long-term injury at the World Cup, while Jurrien Timber is also currently unavailable due to a knock. The Gunners have Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa on their radar, but bringing the England international to North London has proven tricky. They are now looking elsewhere and his Three Lions teammate Quansah has emerged as a target.
However, the Bundesliga club do not want to sell the former Liverpool star and Arsenal would need to pay significantly more than the £30 million he was got him for last summer. Only seven Bundesliga players scored more from set plays than the 23-year-old last season, with four goals to his name in 28 league games.
Quansah can also feature as a right-back, and the Gunners will hope they can get a deal for him over the line.
Liverpool were linked with a move for the Englishman earlier this summer as they considered activating a buy-back clause.
The Reds able to re-sign their academy graduate for €80 million (£68.4m) this summer or €60 million (£51.3m) in 2027.
However, nothing emerged from their interest so far and Arsenal are now looking to move for him.
He made three appearances for England at the World Cup and a return to the Premier League could appeal to him.
Quansah has four years remaining on his Leverkusen contract and suitors may need to break the bank to get him this summer.
