Aston Villa have entered the chase for a 28-year-old forward, Christopher Nkunku, available from AC Milan for €35m, with Newcastle United making contact too. According to a report from Calciomercato journalist Daniele Longo, Milan want that figure as their starting price after new boss Rúben Amorim pushed the Frenchman away from his first-team plans. Sport Witness reported the same transfer claim on August 17.

T4O take: Aston Villa should reject the €35m Nkunku gamble

Nkunku scored seven Serie A goals and supplied three assists across 32 appearances last season, although he started only 15 matches and played about 1,350 minutes. Those numbers show useful output, yet they hardly remove the fitness questions surrounding a player with a long history of physical setbacks. Aston Villa should resist the temptation. €35m looks reasonable beside Nkunku’s talent, but the fee alone doesn’t define the risk.

Why Aston Villa should pass

Unai Emery demands intense work from his attacking players, particularly when Villa press high and try to recover possession quickly. Amorim has built his Milan project around high-intensity pressing, and his reported concerns about Nkunku’s physical profile therefore deserve serious attention. Villa would ask the same body to survive a Premier League schedule that routinely tests availability.

There’s another problem. The limited workload matters more than the headline goal tally because Villa would need reliable availability from an expensive senior attacker.

Why Aston Villa carry too much risk

Financially, the equation looks worse. Milan reportedly want €35m, while Nkunku’s substantial salary could place pressure on Villa’s wage structure. The club already have Ollie Watkins, giving Emery meaningful attacking options without adding another major contract.

A fully fit Nkunku can still change matches through movement, close control and versatility across the front line. That upside explains the interest from Aston Villa, Newcastle United, RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund and Roma. Even so, Villa shouldn’t confuse pedigree with value. At 28, with recent availability concerns and a demanding tactical brief, €35m looks less like a bargain and more like a costly bet.

Villa could spend that money on a forward with a cleaner fitness record, greater pressing capacity and a lower wage burden, even if the immediate glamour would disappear from the deal. That route would give Emery dependable selection options rather than another expensive player requiring careful workload management every week.
