Brian Madjo scored for Aston Villa in their 2-1 UEFA Super Cup defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday -Credit:Aston Villa, Aston Villa FC via Getty Images One match, one goal. That's the formula for a young forward to insert themselves into discussions about potential Harry Kane heirs, given the anxiety among England supporters regarding who will spearhead the attack once their captain's abilities decline. A dejected Kane acknowledged following England's crushing loss to Argentina last month that he's uncertain whether he'll feature at the next FIFA World Cup in 2030. By that point, he'll be 36 and presumably not the powerhouse he was in North America. That's why England must begin the hunt for his replacement. Enter: Brian Madjo. -Credit:NurPhoto, NurPhoto via Getty Images At 17 years and six months old, getting the start in the UEFA Super Cup is sufficient to generate buzz. But his decisive first-time strike against back-to-back Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain has ignited intense enthusiasm at Villa Park. The Aston Villa prodigy - we can confidently call him that now - shrugged off Willian Pacho with surprising ease at the far post before drilling beyond Matvey Safonov with his less-favored left foot. While it wouldn't propel Villa to triumph, with the West Midlands side losing 2-1, it was a finish that declared his arrival on the European scene, as per The Mirror. But scouts have been aware of him for years. Born in Enfield, North London, Madjo relocated to Luxembourg with his Cameroonian parents at a young age. His father, Guy, was a forward himself and represented several EFL clubs. Following stints in the youth systems of Luxembourg clubs Marisca Mersch and Racing Union, top-tier French side Metz secured his signature in 2023. He broke into their senior squad at 16 last season and added four more appearances during the opening half of the 2025-26 season. During this period, Madjo earned three senior caps for Luxembourg. However, FIFA's eligibility regulations permitted him to represent England instead, since those appearances had occurred in non-competitive matches. To listen to the latest episode of 'All Out Soccer' - CLICK HERE Since then, Madjo has featured nine times for England's Under-17 side, netting four goals and recording one assist. At club level, though, his switch to Aston Villa proved more complicated. Acquired for €12 million (around $14 million) in January, Madjo was initially barred from competitive action due to FIFA's restrictions on international transfers involving minors. The 17-year-old's move was classified as international because of his Luxembourg caps, while Villa contended he was English - citing his birthplace and UK citizenship. The Premier League side brought the matter before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and prevailed in their legal challenge earlier this month. This cleared the way for Madjo's participation in Wednesday's Super Cup in Salzburg, where Unai Emery selected him with Ollie Watkins unavailable. Given additional rest following his involvement in England's World Cup run, Watkins now finds himself battling for a spot in Emery's preferred starting eleven. However, at 30 years old, Watkins will still believe he has what it takes to eventually succeed Kane. However, his circumstances at Villa Park may soon mirror those with the national team. Former Villa forward Stan Collymore believes a senior England call-up is on the horizon. "I guarantee he'll be fast tracked into U21s then seniors by the end of the season," Collymore wrote on X during Wednesday's game. -Credit:Frederic Scheidemann - The FA, The FA via Getty Images "England are struggling for strikers, out and out No.9s. We aren't producing them at any senior or youth level. So Madjo (he's raw but his physical dominance of two world class central defenders WILL warrant a look by England scouting analysis) potentially being fast tracked simply addresses a problem. "Is he good enough? God knows. Is one friendly judgement overkill (he's been very good in pre season and one of Europe's best managers deemed him ready enough to play against the European Champions), no I don't think so. There's a gap in England and looking at him is just common sense." Following the final whistle, Villa right-back Matty Cash was questioned about Madjo and characterized his teammate as a 'beast'. "All preseason he's put his body around, scored goals," Cash said. "And then tonight he had a few chances as well. He had the header where he probably could've scored and then a good finish. Really happy for him and 17 is still so young. He'll be delighted." Last year, Luxembourg's technical director Manuel Cardoni drew comparisons between Madjo and Romelu Lukaku, while insisting the youngster has the potential to surpass the Belgian striker. "His profile is similar but, even if we are keeping our feet on the ground, Brian has a more complete profile," Cardoni claimed. • Youri Tielemans apologizes for controversial Aston Villa comment after Manchester United move • Michael Carrick makes Marcus Rashford's Manchester United position clear with statement "He is good in tight spaces, really good in terms of positional play. He is also good in terms of going in behind, and he can also feed the ball with both feet. He has huge room for growth." There's no shortage of buzz surrounding the teenager, though to put his career into perspective, he isn't even available to select on Fantasy Premier League just yet. That said, expectations will already be mounting when Villa kick off their Premier League campaign at Brighton and Hove Albion next Sunday. And with the September-October international break just around the corner, one can only wonder what Thomas Tuchel has in mind. It may not be long before Madjo finds himself lining up alongside Kane — or perhaps even challenging him for his spot.
