The 2026 high school football season got off to a hot start for a future Auburn quarterback.
Gary Chatman Jr, a member of Auburn's top-15 recruiting class for the 2027 cycle, led the Brookwood Broncos to a convincing win over the Cambridge Bears in the Corky Kell Classic at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Thursday. He showcased his dual threat ability by passing for 162 yards and two scores, while adding a touchdown run of 31 yards in Brookwood's 52-7 win.
The Snellville, Georgia native committed to Auburn in May, flipping his pledge to Alex Golesh and the Tigers from Wake Forest. He quickly shutdown his recruitment after making the announcement.
“With this commitment, I’m shutting it down. I am not visiting anywhere else… I am all Auburn,” Chatman said in an interview with Rivals shortly after his commitment.
Chatman is part of Auburn's plan of ensuring longetivety in the quarterback room after completely gutting it the last two seasons. The Tigers signed Rhys Brush ahead of signing day for the 2026 class before landing Chatman for 2027, and Sam Sollie for 2028. Chatman will have one more high school season to develop and lead the Brookwood Broncos to a deep postseason run as a 12th grader, and to capitalize on his 1,494 yard, 12 touchdown season from a year ago.
