AUBURN — There will be a new player with the Auburn football program during its upcoming week of preseason camp. Tray Taylor, a wide receiver who was recently granted an additional season of eligibility, has been added to the Tigers' roster.
According to Taylor's bio, he was granted his eligibility this month, amid several ongoing legal battles pertaining to the NCAA's updated 5-for-5 eligibility rules. Those lawsuits have largely pertained to Class of 2022 athletes, to which Taylor belongs.
Listed at 5-foot-6 and 150 pounds, the Louisiana native began his career at the junior college level, playing for Tyler Junior College. After two seasons, Taylor exited the JUCO level a second-team All-American and widely viewed as a top-15 transfer among JUCO prospects.
Between a season at Coastal Carolina and Troy each, Taylor tallied 48 receptions for 761 yards and 4 touchdown receptions in 27 games. He was the Trojans' third-leading receiver last fall, and in the season prior, he was a dual-use return man for the Chanticleers, returning kickoffs and punts.
Taylor's arrival comes in the aftermath of wideout Duke Smith's dismissal in June, making the former Sun Belt pass-catcher part of a room missing expected depth.
