  • Bangladesh beat Australia by nine wickets in Darwin, marking their first-ever Test win on Australian soil.
  • Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked up his 15th career five-wicket haul, while Hasan Mahmud finished with nine wickets in the match.
  • Cameron Green's fighting century couldn't save Australia, who were bowled out for 284 in their second innings.

Darwin demolition! Bangladesh stun Pat Cummins' Australia by 9 wickets to seal historic first-ever Test win Down Under

History belongs to Bangladesh after they registered a stunning nine-wicket win in Darwin, which is their first Test victory ever recorded on Australian soil.

The Bangla Tigers flew Down Under to play their first Test in the country in 22 years, and the visitors dominated nearly every session across four days to eventually seal the win when Mominul Haque struck the winning runs.

Surprisingly, a beleagured Cameron Green offered the hosts their only resistance, compiling his third Test hundred and his first on home turf. It was a gritty knock built on just four boundaries, played against a tiring pitch and an increasingly confident bowling attack, but even that defiant innings was not enough to prevent the disaster.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the standout performer with the ball, claiming his 15th career five-wicket haul. At the same time, Hasan Mahmud chipped in with three more scalps to finish with nine wickets across the match, only the second Bangladesh pace bowler ever to manage that tally in an away Test.

The Australian innings began unravelling soon after lunch on Day 4, with the hosts sitting on 243 for 7 and just 15 runs ahead. Taskin Ahmed struck first after the break, having Mitchell Starc caught behind for 18.

Mehidy had, in truth, been running through Australia's line-up since the fourth morning began. After Mahmud beat Alex Carey's outside edge a couple of times through the slip cordon, Mehidy finally got him caught behind for 30.

He then produced what might have been the delivery of the match, castling Beau Webster for just 5 with a ball that held its line and crashed into off stump. Pat Cummins became Mehidy's third victim of the morning, with an inside edge to a simple catch at short leg taken by Shadman Islam.

Bangladesh has flipped the script on a rivalry Australia has long dominated

This result flips the script on a fixture that's rarely been close. Bangladesh and Australia have met just six times across three Test series since 2003, and until now, Australia had won five of those matches, with Bangladesh managing only a single victory before this Darwin triumph.

The early years were especially one-sided as Australia swept both series in 2003 and 2006, winning all four Tests, two of them by an innings margin.

The rivalry finally found some competitive edge in 2017, when Bangladesh recorded their first-ever win over Australia at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. That victory came by 20 runs, built on a legendary all-round display from Shakib Al Hasan, who scored 89 runs and picked up 10 wickets across the match.

Australia hit back to level that series with a win in Chittagong, but this latest result in Darwin marks something new: Bangladesh's first taste of Test success on Australian territory itself.
