Barcelona have completed the signing of Rodri from Manchester City in a blockbuster deal worth around £65 million.
The 30-year-old midfielder has signed a four-year contract at Camp Nou, bringing him back to Spain after seven hugely successful years in Manchester. Rodri joined City from Atletico Madrid in 2019 and went on to establish himself as one of the best holding midfielders in world football.
During his time at the Etihad, he made 298 appearances and helped City win 12 major honours, including four Premier League titles, three League Cups and the Champions League in 2023, when he scored the winning goal in the final against Inter Milan.
Rodri’s individual achievements have been just as impressive. He became the first Manchester City player to win the Ballon d’Or in 2024 and recently played a key role in Spain’s World Cup triumph, being named the tournament’s best player.
Barcelona reportedly had several bids rejected before eventually agreeing a deal worth around €60m, with additional bonuses taking the total package to approximately £65m.
The midfielder now set to play for the reigning La Liga champions. He could make his Barcelona debut against Elche in their league opener on August 23.
