Arijon Ibrahimović is embracing the competition for places at Bayern Munich and believes his versatility could help him carve out a role under Vincent Kompany.

The young attacker sees himself as someone capable of filling virtually any position across the front line. That flexibility could prove valuable for Bayern Munich, particularly with the arrival of Luis Díaz adding another high-level option to the attack.

Ibrahimović explained just how versatile his game has become.

“I can play anywhere up front: whether on the left, right, as a number 10 or as a striker. In Heidenheim, I even played a few games as a right-back,” Ibrahimović stated (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

Playing right-back might not be where Ibrahimović expects to spend much of his career, but his willingness to adapt could give him another avenue toward earning minutes.

With Díaz now ahead of him in the pecking order on the left side, Ibrahimović is also looking at the situation as an opportunity rather than simply an obstacle. The 20-year-old is excited about working alongside the new Bayern Munich signing and believes there is plenty he can take from the Colombian international.

“Lucho is a really good and funny guy who brings a lot of energy. I’m looking forward to spending time with him and I can learn a lot from him: especially his flair for the game and his creativity. When we were in Tokyo three years ago, we played against Liverpool and Lucho. We swapped jerseys after the final whistle,” Ibrahimović said.

That story makes the connection between the two players even more interesting. Ibrahimović encountered Díaz as a teenager during Bayern Munich’s preseason trip to Tokyo, when Díaz was already an established Liverpool star.

Three years later, the two are teammates.

For Ibrahimović, having Díaz around could provide an invaluable learning experience. Díaz brings creativity, unpredictability and the ability to make things happen in one-on-one situations, precisely the types of qualities Ibrahimović wants to develop.

The competition for attacking minutes at Bayern Munich will be fierce, but Ibrahimović appears to understand that having players like Díaz around can accelerate his development. Rather than viewing Díaz simply as someone standing in his way, Ibrahimović sees him as someone he can learn from.

That mindset could be just as important as his versatility as he looks to establish himself at Bayern Munich.
