(Photo by Yu Chun Christopher Wong/Eurasia Sport Images/Getty Images) | Getty Images The latest UEFA financial report provides an interesting look at where Bayern Munich stands compared to Europe’s biggest clubs, and the numbers highlight both a major strength and an area that needs attention. Bayern Munich ranked third in Europe for kit and merchandising revenue in 2025, trailing only Barcelona and Real Madrid. That is another indication of the enormous global appeal of the club and its brand. Supporters continue to demonstrate their willingness to spend on Bayern Munich jerseys and merchandise, giving the club a significant and relatively reliable source of revenue. Bayern Munich also ranked fourth in commercial revenue, further demonstrating the strength of its business model. The club has consistently been one of the best commercial performers in European football, with sponsorships, partnerships and merchandising helping Bayern Munich remain financially competitive with clubs that operate in much larger markets. However, there is one number that stands out for the wrong reason — Bayern Munich ranked only 19th in TV revenue. That disparity is particularly noteworthy when compared with some of Bayern Munich’s biggest European competitors. The club’s ability to generate commercial and merchandising income is elite, but its television revenue is nowhere near the same level.

This is not entirely Bayern Munich’s problem. The Bundesliga’s domestic television market simply does not generate the same money as the Premier League, and that puts German clubs at a disadvantage when competing financially with England’s biggest teams. Still, Bayern Munich’s numbers demonstrate why the club continues to emphasize the importance of growing the Bundesliga internationally. Bayern Munich can continue maximizing its own commercial potential, but there is a ceiling to how much the club can generate independently. If the Bundesliga wants to close the financial gap with Europe’s other major leagues, increasing the league’s international appeal and broadcasting revenue will be essential. For Bayern Munich, the message from the UEFA report is clear: the club’s brand is already among Europe’s best. The Bundesliga’s ability to monetize that popularity remains the bigger challenge.
