The Chicago Bears have all but given up on a new stadium in Illinois and have instead shifted their focus to building a new home across state lines in Hammond, Indiana. But could a move out of Chicago actually lead to the storied franchise changing its name? Bears chairman George McCaskey pumped the brakes on that possibility. Ahead of Thursday's press conference, there were some reports that Indiana officials were pushing to have "Indiana" replace "Chicago" in the franchise's name as one of the conditions of public funding for a new stadium. For a franchise that has been around for 100-plus years, the notion seemed farfetched. The Jets and Giants play in New Jersey but keep the New York title. The Commanders play in Maryland (for now) and have Washington in the name. It would be tough to see the Bears entertaining a drastic rebranding for a move 30 miles South. McCaskey gave a definitive answer to those concerns.

That should be the end of that rumor. The Chicago Bears are remaining the Chicago Bears. This article originally appeared on For The Win: Bears chairman offers definitive answer on 'Indiana Bears' name-change rumors
