Bears’ quarterbacks throw for 348 yards in preseason win against the Browns

On the FOX 32 pregame show, host Cassie Carlson brought up a good point: Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson has recycled the same preseason game plan that he’s used going back to when he first started calling plays for the Lions. That should provide some perspective for all their preseason games, right, Milhouse?.

The Bears beat the Cleveland Browns 34 to 10 after falling behind 10-0 in the first half. Chicago scored 34 unanswered and then stopped the Browns in the red zone to seal the game.

Tyson Bagent had some nice moments for the Bears in the first half, throwing to Kaden Davis (4 receptions, 88 yards) and Maurice Alexander (3 receptions for 42 yards and a TD), but he also threw a pick and had a couple of floaters. All in all, it was a fine performance by a fine QB2, going 13-for-22 (59.1%), 169 passing yards, 1 touchdown, 1 interception, and a 79.5 passer rating.

Reserve running back Salvon Ahmed showed some nice vision and speed on a 49-yard TD catch off a Case Keenum screen.

Keenum put up a perfect 158.3 passer rating on his 10 passing attempts.

Regarding the left tackle competition, neither Kiran Amegadjie nor Jedrick Wills Jr. stood out, so Braxton Jones, who should be back next week, was today’s winner.

Jamree Kromah, who is trying to make his first 53-man roster as a backup defensive end, had a sack, forced fumble, and fumble recovery trifecta on Browns starting QB Deshaun Watson. Overall, he had 6 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and 2 sacks.

James Lynch got reps at both defensive tackle and end, showing some versatility.

Rookie sixth-round pick Jordan van den Berg played a lot at defensive tackle, but didn’t make a big impact with just 1 tackle and a QB hit.

Fellow rookie DT Jayden Loving had a nice sequence in the second half where he got doubled but got his hand up to knock the pass down on one play; then on the next play he got a good push up the middle to pressure Shedeur Sanders, who threw a pick to Beanie Bishop Jr. Bishop got a second interception later in the game.
