‘Beautiful,’ ‘Stepback Assassin’ - WNBA Fans Hyped As Caitlin Clark Hits 3-Pointer Over Angel Reese in Fever-Dream Clash

Caitlin Clark’s offensive repertoire was on full display early in the Indiana Fever’s Sunday matchup against the Atlanta Dream.

Midway through the first quarter, she pulled a step-back 3-pointer off a crossover before sinking a deep shot over Angel Reese, a play that understandably got many people hyped.

WNBA Fans Awestruck by Caitlin Clark’s Highlight Play

Numerous fans perceive Clark and Reese as rivals. Even before they entered the WNBA, they were already being pitted against one another. Being drafted in the same class only added more fuel to the fire.

Naturally, every time one of them has an impressive play at the expense of the other, fans immediately get hooked. They share and repost clips of it all over social media, and the latest Clark-over-Reese highlight is no different.

One fan on social media suggested that this type of play has become standard whenever Clark sees Reese defending her, saying, “She pull up for a 3 anytime Angel guarding her,”

Another fan had the perfect two words to describe Clark’s offensive skill set, calling her the “Step-back Assassin.”

One X user, whom people can safely assume is a huge Clark fan, had nothing but the highest praise for the Fever star.

“That’s my queen,” the user posted.

One fan didn’t try to narrate the play or describe what happened in their own words. Instead, they summed it up in one word: “Beautiful.”

Another fan who was clearly enamored by the play simply conveyed their thoughts with a fitting GIF.

That wouldn’t be the only highlight Clark would have in the game. Later in the second quarter, during a transition opportunity, she displayed her elite handles and interior finishing.

She hit a behind-the-back dribble followed immediately by a between-the-legs crossover to lose Te-Hina Paopao. This gave her the space she needed to drive to the basket, where she sank a lay-up over Reese.

Those 5 points weren’t the only ways that Clark impacted the tight contest. She finished the game with a team-high 26 points and 9 assists. Among her baskets were a pair of clutch free throws in overtime to put her team up by 4, 95-91. Those charity-stripe shots would end up icing the game.

The Dream went on to miss a shot attempt to cut the lead to one on the other end. Clark sealed the game by grabbing the board and flinging the ball down the court to avoid being fouled.

Clark and the Fever are now winners of four straight games and stand at 23-12. More importantly, they put even more distance between themselves and the Dream, who are now 21-13 and remain directly behind Indiana in the standings.
