Ohio State freshman quarterback Luke Fahey is the latest Buckeye to get his black stripe removed.
Fahey, a 5-foot-11 quarterback from Mission Viejo, California, had his stripe removed Saturday following Ohio State's first fall scrimmage. Fahey joined RB Ja'Kobi Jackson, RB Stanley Jackson Jr, and CB Jay Timmons as the latest to shed his black stripe.
The black stripe tradition is a long-standing tradition in Columbus. Freshmen and other newcomers initially wear a black stripe down the middle of their helmets before earning its removal through their approach to practices and other responsibilities. Ohio State describes it as the result of a player "buying in" to the program and handling themselves the right way.

Fahey arrived in Columbus as a four-star prospect who was rated as one of the top 25 quarterbacks in his class. In high school, he completed more than 70% of his passes in his last three seasons as a starter, and scoring 68 touchdowns while throwing only nine interceptions.
The Buckeyes are quite deep at the quarterback position and won't feel a need to rush Fahey into meaningful snaps this fall. Fahey can spend his season developing comfort in commanding the offense and proving himself to the coaching staff that he can be one day entrusted to step in if called upon.
