The Brazilian Men’s Futsal Team defeated Argentina 2-0 in the final match of the CONMEBOL South American U-17 group stage. Tuco and Jhon scored Brazil’s goals at Complejo Suma, in Luque, Paraguay.

With the result, the Seleção wrapped up the first phase at the top of Group B with 12 points and a perfect record: four wins in four matches. Argentina finished in second place with nine points.

PERFECT CAMPAIGN IN THE FIRST PHASE

Brazil began its run in the tournament with a 5-1 win over Ecuador. In the second round, it beat Bolivia 5-2 and then thrashed Peru 9-0. To close out the group stage, the Seleção won the derby against Argentina 2-0.

Tuco, who scored one of the goals in the derby win, celebrated the result and highlighted the team’s achievement of its first objective in the competition.

“Our goal was to finish the group stage in first place, and we managed to accomplish that mission. I’m happy with the goal and, above all, to be able to help the Brazilian National Team once again. We are certain that we will do everything to achieve our objective,” said Tuco.

In addition to the unbeaten campaign, Jhon stands out as Brazil’s top scorer in the tournament, with four goals. In assists, Luka and Jhon lead the team with three each.

“We had an excellent first phase, with four wins in four games, and we secured first place in the group. It was a very important run for the team and gives us even more confidence for the next match. Now the focus is on the semifinal, on putting in a great performance and going after another positive result. I’m also very happy with my individual performance and the four goals I’ve scored, but never satisfied. I always want to push for more and help the Seleção in the best way possible,” said Jhon.

Coach Diogo Barros also highlighted the team’s progress throughout the first phase and the importance of having the full squad available for the rest of the tournament.

“We had a first phase in which we improved with every game. We showed a very positive change in attitude in the last matches and developed into a more balanced team at all times. We finished this stage with an excellent level of performance, but we know we still need to improve for the semifinal. We managed to have all the players available in every match, and that is very important so we can arrive well recovered for the final games, which will demand a lot physically and psychologically,” the coach said.

SEMIFINAL

The Brazilian National Team returns to the court on Saturday (15) to play the semifinal against Paraguay, the runner-up in Group A. The match will kick off at 4 p.m. Brasília time, with live coverage on SporTV.
