Brentford B produced a professional performance as Josh Dasilva and Michel Boni strikes helped the team to a 2-0 victory at Wheatsheaf Park in their Premier League Cup opener against Wycombe Wanderers Reserves.

Fabio Carvalho also impressed in a game that saw a number of first-team players feature and gain valuable minutes. Ellery Balcombe, Ji-soo Kim, Yunus Emre Konak, Jayden Meghoma, Gustavo Nunes and Jannik Schuster were all involved in the Group J fixture.

The home side began the game in control, pinning the opposition deep in their half. Nunes had the first chance curling a shot just wide of the post.

The Bees continued to push for the opener and Michel Boni's clever cross caused pinball action in the box and the eventual deflection off Mohamed Keita almost found his own net.

Carvalho went close, beating his opponent and then striking firmly at goal but his effort went wide.

Balcombe was called into action with the final shot of the first period and the goalkeeper made a tremendous stop to keep the scores level.

It was more of the same dominance as the young Bees continued to put pressure on the Blues in the second period. Neat combination from Dasilva and Carvalho saw the latter fizz a shot goalwards which Samuel Keller saved well.

The deadlock was broken just before the hour mark and it came through Dasilva who finished neatly from close range following a corner from Nunes.

Second-half substitute Theo Mawene went agonisingly close from the edge of the box as he curled an effort which whistled past the post.

Nunes continued to push to get onto the scoresheet and his curled effort from distance had to be tipped wide by Keller.

The deserved second goal came when Jacob Hanson powered into the box and delivered a quality ball for Boni, who expertly steered it home.

Riley Owen, another second-half substitute could have added a third as his sweeping strike hit the foot of the post, with the rebound falling in the keeper's hands.

The Bees were able to see out the rest of the game and secure the three points which gets them off to a winning start in Group J.

The team's next game in the group comes on Tuesday 8 September as the west London side will travel to take on Hull City.

Brentford begin their Premier League 2 campaign on Friday 22 August as they take on Stoke City away from home at the Bet365 Stadium.

Brentford: Balcombe, Wheeler-Henry (Klimas 60), Meghoma, Ji-soo, Schuster, Konak (Hanson 60), Nunes, Grey, Boni (Trialist A 83), Dasilva (Owen 60), Carvalho (Mawene 60)
