The Milwaukee Brewers have established a super team in Biloxi.
Their Double-A affiliate, the Biloxi Shuckers, will soon welcome the arrival of No. 2 prospect Luis Peña.
Peña is not only the team's No. 2 prospect, but he's also MLB Pipeline's No. 21 prospect, as of Monday, Aug. 17.
Remember, the Brewers No. 1 prospect, Jesus Made, also happens to be the top prospect in all of baseball.
Made and Peña are both listed as shortstops, so this could result in the team promoting Made to Triple-A, or they'll just be testing either one out at a different position, at least for the time being.
With Cooper Pratt currently on the Injured List, shortstop is a premium position that the Brewers have plenty of talent at. That said, neither Made nor Peña are expected to join the big-league roster this season.
Regardless, Peña has been having an unbelievable season, one that has made this promotion a no-brainer.
Peña heads to Biloxi
Blake Burke just earned a promotion to Triple-A, but Peña is replacing him on a roster that is absolutely loaded with talent. Between Peña, Made, Andrew Fischer, and Josh Adamczewski alone, this Double-A squad has more talent than most minor league squads could dream of.
Peña is in the midst of a career year, and he's doing so while being just 19-years-old. The Dominican Republic native is a right-handed batter who appeared in 51 games at High-A this season.
During his time with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, Peña slashed .298/.384/.420. He only has a pair of homers this year, but his game goes far beyond just power.
Peña's .804 OPS is still extremely solid, and it's right around his career average, which sits at .840. To really put things into perspective, he has a career .307 batting average across his 734 at-bats in the minors.
Even with all the talent Milwaukee now has at Double-A, there's no doubt Peña will have a spot in the everyday lineup. His talent simply can't be denied, and he's already swiped 29 bases this season. Of those 29, 27 have come at High-A, so now Biloxi gets a chance to see his speed at the next level.
Peña already has 112 career stolen bases to go along with his 124 career RBIs. He crossed the 100 mark this season, and while he doesn't hit a lot of homers, he has 44 career doubles to go along with an astonishing 17 triples.
