The Milwaukee Brewers are in a battle for the best record in MLB, and they might be getting some encouraging news regarding one of their most important players. Brice Turang remains out of the lineup while dealing with a knee injury, but the Brewers’ second baseman told reporters that he is optimistic he can avoid a stint on the injured list. Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported the update Saturday. MORE: MLB awards predictions for the 2026 season Turang hoping to avoid the IL Milwaukee Brewers infielder Brice Turang (2) throws the ball during spring training workouts Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at American Family Fields of Phoenix in Phoenix, Arizona. Turang has missed time because of the knee issue, prompting Milwaukee to bring in additional infield depth. An MRI did not reveal anything serious, although Turang was expected to receive a second opinion on the imaging. The fact that he remains hopeful about avoiding the injured list is certainly encouraging for the Brewers. Milwaukee also acquired Jonathan Ornelas from the Athletics, and he is in the lineup Saturday, batting ninth and playing second base. Ornelas provides the Brewers with an additional option while Turang works his way back. MORE: Blue Jays reveal Vladimir Guerrero Jr. update ahead of game against Yankees Brewers need their star healthy Turang has become an extremely important part of Milwaukee’s lineup and defense, so losing him for an extended period would be a significant blow. The Brewers are in the middle of a highly competitive portion of the season, and every game matters as they position themselves for October. For now, though, there doesn’t appear to be a reason for major panic. Turang is dealing with a knee injury, but the initial testing did not reveal anything serious, and he remains optimistic that he won’t need an IL stint. The Brewers will monitor how he responds to treatment and baseball activity over the coming days. If Turang can avoid the injured list and return quickly, Milwaukee should consider that a major victory. — Enjoy free coverage of the top news & trending stories with The Big Lead Newsletter —
