The Tampa Bay Buccaneers wanted to bring a different level of intensity to their defense this offseason, and veteran defensive tackle A'Shawn Robinson isn't hiding the mentality he plans to bring with him. The Pewter Plank's Josh Crysler highlighted Robinson's approach after the veteran spoke with reporters following Sunday's practice. Robinson, who is entering his 11th NFL season, explained that being combative and talking trash are simply part of how he approaches the game. "It brings tenacity. It brings that fight, that will, that juice, that hunger," Robinson said. "Being combative brings nothing but greatness. So that's all I try to do is make it as tough as I can because I'm going to talk trash every single play." Robinson added that his approach doesn't change depending on how things are going, saying, "Good or bad, I'm going to talk trash." That mentality is part of what Tampa Bay added when it signed Robinson this offseason. Crysler pointed to the veteran as a potential source of leadership and accountability for a defense that had questions surrounding both areas last season. Robinson also brings experience from the Los Angeles Rams' Super Bowl-winning team in 2021. His message isn't only about bringing an edge individually. Robinson emphasized the importance of the entire defense maintaining the same standard and remaining consistent in its actions. "All we focus on is making sure everybody is locked in, held to the standard, communicating, being consistent, and dominating everything we do," Robinson said. "Leave no stone unturned. Eat everything on your plate." The Bucs will eventually find out how much Robinson's approach translates once the games begin. What he's bringing to Tampa Bay in the meantime is clear: intensity, accountability and a willingness to make every rep as competitive as possible.
