Cavaliers predicted to sign $305M future Hall of Famer, 6x All-Star to pair with James Harden originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. NBA free agency is still going on, and it has been an exciting offseason, especially with LeBron James having the entire league on lockdown for a month. There are still several notable veterans available on the market. One name generating significant interest is DeMar DeRozan, who became a free agent after being released by the Sacramento Kings. “The Sacramento Kings have waived DeMar DeRozan, the team announced Monday, making the six-time All-Star one of the top free agents on the market. DeRozan had a partial guarantee on his contract for next season, but he and Sacramento worked on his release to allow him to find a new home. Multiple contenders are expected to have interest in the veteran guard," ESPN wrote. Several contenders are interested in DeRozan because of his offensive ability and the impact he could have on a team. The Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers and Denver Nuggets have already expressed interest in the veteran. “I'm told Miami, Denver, and Cleveland are among the teams interested in DeMar DeRozan… There is a player out west that is overlapping with DeRozan as far as interest from teams," ESPN's Shams Charania said. DeRozan would be a significant addition for any of those teams, but Cleveland may need him the most. The Cavaliers are still searching for a starting wing, and SI’s John Hobbs believes the veteran could ultimately land in Cleveland. “With the Cavs carrying the burden of an expensive roster and heavy salary issues, the addition of DeRozan gives Cleveland an affordable option as a seasoned veteran. Having been waived by the Kings, it’s said that DeRozan could be the best available free agent on the market right now, and the 17-year NBA professional still has gas left in the tank at a low cost,” Hobbs wrote. The Cavaliers are in desperate need of a starting wing, especially if they miss out on Peyton Watson and Jonathan Kuminga. Cleveland has plenty of potential on its roster, but adding DeRozan could fill one of the team's biggest remaining needs while giving the offense another proven scorer. DeRozan has made $305 million throughout his career. The Cavaliers are coming off an Eastern Conference Finals appearance, which could make Cleveland an attractive destination for the veteran. The future Hall of Famer wants to play for a legitimate contender, and the Cavaliers could give him that opportunity. More NBA news:
