Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys:The Cavs have won over 50 games in each of the last two seasons. They won 52 last season despite an injury-riddled campaign, and they won 64 the year before in a historically strong season.
Cleveland won 48 games in 2023-24 and 51 games in 2021-22, Mitchell’s first year as a Cavalier.
It’s been four seasons since the Cavs last finished below 48 wins. Meaning FanDuel expects the Cavs to take a slide down the Eastern Conference this year.
This might have more to do with the rise of other teams rather than a decline in Cleveland.
The East has upgraded. Multiple teams have seemingly leapfrogged the Cavaliers through their offseason additions. The Philadelphia 76ers and Toronto Raptors come to mind. Other teams, like the Miami Heat, have simply gotten stronger and can provide more of an obstacle to the conference.
In other words, it won’t be as easy to rack up wins in the East. It might be harder than ever.
Cleveland has continuity on their side. The core of this squad, aside from James Harden, has been together for years. They’ve proven they can win in the regular season even when things aren’t going to plan. They should be expected to be a regular-season force once again next year.
