Memorial services have been announced for legendary LSU baseball coach and athletics director Skip Bertman, who passed on Friday at 88.
LSU will hold a public celebration of life at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge on Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 7 p.m., according to Louisiana Sports.Net Doors will open at 6 p.m.
His family, along with former players, coaches and staff members, will gather for a private ceremony before the public event.
Bertman, who turned LSU’s baseball program into a powerhouse that won its first five national championships between 1991 and 2000.
He coached a total of 18 seasons, retiring in 2001 with a record of 870-330-3 and 11 College World Series appearances. He then served as athletic director until 2008 and athletic director emeritus after that. He continued to live in Baton Rouge, support the university and attended LSU events for the rest of his life.
