Chargers roster: TeRah Edwards stocks up in preseason opener

The Chargers had a dominant performance on Thursday night, defeating the Texans 27-7. There was a lot to like about the win, including defensive tackle TeRah Edwards' performance. After the contest, the 25-year-old expressed the fun and excitement he had out there playing on Chris O'Leary's defense. "First preseason game out there with Coach O'Leary on the calls," Edwards said after the game "We've been bought in since Day 1 defensively, what he called. We just went out there and executed. It's been good, it was fun out there. It was fun to go out there with the guys and see camp and all the grind days pay off." The second-year defensive lineman set the tone early, being disruptive and doing his part for most of the game. Edwards stood out in multiple ways that even the stat sheet doesn't show. One play that stood out was when he stalled Texans quarterback Graham Mertz on a sneak up the middle. That stop forced a turnover on downs and kept points off the board. As things stand, Teair Tart, Dalvin Tomlinson, Jamaree Caldwell, Justin Eboigbe and Nick Barrett are expected to make up the Chargers' defensive line depth chart. If Edwards can continue to stand out in a major way, maybe he could force the Bolts to go six deep in the positional room. In January, Edwards signed a future contract with the Chargers for the 2026 season. The Ohio native played for Illinois and earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention in 2024.
