While Johnson is better known for his striking, he showed off his grappling chops when the opportunity presented itself.
The Scottish twister is a variation of the traditional twister that requires precise control of the opponent's waist and torso. For Johnson, however, the submission was far from a last-second improvisation, revealing that Patrick “Patchy” Mix showed him how to do it.
“I hit that at least once or twice a week on people in practice, so it’s just about getting there,” Johnson said in a post-fight interview. “Patchy Mix actually showed me that move, so I’m gonna give him his flowers, man.”
Johnson (20-9) has alternated between wins and losses for his last seven bouts and has already fought four times this year. He notably holds a knockout win over the reigning champ, Joshua Van, who’s set to defend his title at the next numbered event.
