Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones spoke with reporters after practice on Thursday at Missouri Western State University. He addressed the additions of new teammates Khyiris Tonga and Peter Woods to the defensive line, whom he believes will improve the unit. "I'm glad he's (Khyiris Tonga) on our side of the ball. I actually found Tonga, when they played the Denver Broncos (2025 AFC Championship), how he was resetting the line of scrimmage," said Jones. "That's lucky that's how life works, the cycle of life that we were able to acquire him to our d-line. He's a great asset for us, and we were able to utilize him on first and second downs." Kansas City signed Tonga to a three-year, $21 million deal with $14 million guaranteed. In 2025, for the New England Patriots, He started 8 of the 14 games he played and collected 24 tackles. During his five-year career, he has 113 tackles, .5 sacks, one fumble recovery, and six pass deflections/batted balls. "Strong. A young bull, I think for him (Peter Woods), just pulling it all together. He has the skill set. He has the power for it, also. He's strong as an ox, and he's willing to learn," said Jones, who sees the former Clemson standout making an impact as a rookie. "I think a lot of these guys, they're coming from college, and they were one of the top guys in college. Just being humble in yourself, willing to learn, and a sponge. Most importantly, that's what he is, and I think he's going to contribute to this defense a lot this year." Woods was a Second-team Associated Press All-American in 2025, starting 12 games, finishing with 30 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and 2 sacks.
