New York Liberty coach Chris DeMarco has confirmed that Satou Sabally will be taking a break from the WNBA in order to focus on her health.
Sabally hasn’t played for the Liberty since 23 June when she suffered a concussion-related injury against the Las Vegas Aces.
The three-time WNBA all-star has dealt with concussion injuries before but has decided that the best idea right now is to step away and return to full health.

Losing a player of Sabally’s talent is obviously a blow to DeMarco and the Liberty side, however, the coach understands that the player’s well-being comes first.
“As with all our players, health will always be the focus. We look forward to getting her back. She’s just going to take some time right now,” he said.
“We’re really looking forward to getting her back and she will be back. She’s gonna play at an elite level again. But in terms of just the broad scope of players, we have to deal with that journey.”
Who will replace Satou Sabally?
Despite her quality, Sabally has found herself playing second fiddle to Sabrina Ionescu, who hasn’t been without her own injury issues.
Ionescu has missed 12 games but would be considered the main candidate to try and step up, as she did in their 85-81 win over the Los Angeles Sparks, where she was able to amass 20 points.
The Liberty are still hoping that they can make the play-offs but currently have the sixth best record in the WNBA with a record of 21-14.
