Credit: 680 The Fan Chuck Oliver and Matt Chernoff have comprised one of the longest-lasting and most successful duos on sports talk radio in America. But after 25 years together, Tuesday represented their final show on 680 The Fan in Atlanta. The pair first worked in the early 2000s at AM 790 before moving to 680 The Fan in 2008. It was there that Chuck and Chernoff established itself as the top sports talk show in Atlanta in the afternoon drive timeslot, where it resided for much of its tenure. However, the longtime pairing is now going their separate ways. Thankfully, unlike other high-profile sports radio partnerships like Mike & The Mad Dog, Mike & Mike, and most recently Dan Le Batard and Stugotz, it’s being done so amicably. Longtime radio host John Kincade is returning to the Atlanta market and 680 The Fan after spending the last five years in Philadelphia. Kincade will partner with Chernoff on a new show in the existing afternoon timeslot. Oliver is stepping back from the daily program to focus on his college football show on the Southern Sports Today Network, but will remain with 680 The Fan in other capacities. The program bid their listeners an emotional goodbye on Tuesday.

“To Chuck, and I say this tongue and cheek, but sincerely, it’s the longest relationship I’ve ever had. Is it bumpy at times? Yes. But you work with someone for two-plus decades, it’s going to be bumpy. But I’ll say this. When this show was at its best, I’ll put it up against any show, not just in sports talk, but in radio. That’s how good I felt about this show,” Chernoff said. “Do I wish it continued? Sure. But as we’ve said, we’re going to move on to our next chapter. Chuck’s going to move on to his next chapter, and I hope you guys will remain as loyal a listenership and fanbase as ever. This city means the world to me. I know this city means the world to you. And to get to do this in my hometown with you, together, for 25 years, it’s been a blessing. It’s just been a dream.” Earlier this year, both Chernoff and Oliver had signed multi-year contract extensions with the station. However, Oliver decided that doing both the afternoon drive show and his regional football program was too much. And now Chernoff and a returning Kincade will hope to continue the run of success in one of the largest markets in the country.
