Former Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson’s wife, Ciara, had a message for NBA legend Russell Westbrook after he announced his retirement.
Westbrook spent 18 seasons in the NBA, earning the 2017 NBA MVP award and leaving the sport as the all-time leader in triple-doubles.
While he didn’t win a championship, Westbrook will be remembered as one of the greatest guards in NBA history and an inspiration to an entire generation of hoopers.
Russell Westbrook’s retirement generates reaction from Ciara
Westbrook collaborated with Ciara in 2025 on the music video for ‘Dance With Me,’ as Ciara shared a clip of them dancing together with a message for the expressive former NBA superstar.
“Congrats on an incredible career and being one of the most Legendary players that ain’t afraid to sauce it up! It was a blessing to rock with you!”
Westbrook used to regularly go viral for his sideline dances during games in the late-2010s, and this video appearance paid homage to his love for the same.
Ciara has been around Westbrook and the sports world for years, especially recently with her husband, Wilson.
With Russell Wilson also retiring before the start of the 2026 season, the two biggest sports leagues are going into the next season without their iconic ‘Russ’ on a roster.
Russell Westbrook stepping away on his own terms
Westbrook averaged 15.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 6.7 assists last season with the Sacramento Kings, proving that he could be an NBA-level contributor for a few more years with his well-rounded skill set.

Despite interest from the Kings and Washington Wizards, Westbrook chose to retire instead of sticking around and seeing himself slide even further down the pecking order.
He played a real role for the Kings last season, and he was unlikely to get the same opportunity this season after Sacramento drafted Darius Acuff Jr. to be the point guard of the future.
The Wizards also have multiple guards like Trae Young, Bub Carrington, and Tre Johnson to focus on, so Westbrook likely wouldn’t feature heavily there either.
Instead, he walks away from a legendary career with high-level production until his final minutes.
