The Washington Commanders defeated the Miami Dolphins in the preseason opener on Friday night. After some time off and only a walkthrough since, the Commanders were back at practice on Tuesday morning. Before practice, Washington officially announced several roster moves, some of which were revealed in recent days.
First, the Commanders revealed they had signed the following four players:
- LB Krys Barnes
- DT Maurice Hurst II
- TE Trey McKitty
- RB Craig Reynolds
The Reynolds and Barnes moves were initially reported on Monday by ESPN’s John Keim and CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, respectively. The Commanders added Reynolds, a former teammate of offensive coordinator David Blough, because of an injury to Jerome Ford. Jeremy McNichols is also dealing with a quad injury. At linebacker, Jordan Magee missed Tuesday’s practice, so Barnes could be a depth addition until we learn more about Magee’s situation.
Hurst is the most interesting name here. The 31-year-old was an All-American at the University of Michigan and has spent time with the Raiders, 49ers and Browns. Washington signed Hurst as defensive tackle Johnny Newton is reportedly dealing with an injury, and he also missed Tuesday’s practice.
To make room for these four additions, Washington released the following two players:
- P Matt Haack
- K Jake Moody
The Commanders made the decision to release Moody on Monday and will go forward with undrafted rookie Drew Stevens as the kicker. Washington released Haack with Tress Way back at practice after dealing with an injury earlier in camp.
Washington also placed wide receiver River Cracraft and Ford on the reserve/injured list.
