Commanders might've gotten a 'steal' in $27M target for Jayden Daniels originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Washington Commanders needed to revitalize their offense this offseason, and they did just that with a few interesting additions. Rachaad White should help out in the backfield, while Stefon Diggs and rookie Antonio Williams are nice wide receiver moves. But the Commanders also signed a tight end to a $27 million contract over three seasons. This player, Chigozeim Okonkwo, might already be proving his worth for Washington this summer. Alex Kay of Bleacher Report is calling Okonkwo a "steal" for the Commanders and quarterback Jayden Daniels, as Kay predicts that Okonkwo is a "shoo-in" to have a career year with Daniels if they can both stay healthy. Commanders got a 'steal' in Chig Okonkwo for Jayden Daniels "The Daniels-Okonkwo battery has already started making waves in training camp and should only improve in the coming weeks," Kay writes. "As long as Daniels can stay healthy after an injury-plagued sophomore campaign, Okonkwo is a shoo-in to put up career-best marks in 2026." Okonkwo, the 26-year-old tight end drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, has a chance to put together a big 2026 season for the Commanders. Kay is already calling Okonkwo a "steal," even though it's very early to be making such a claim. But it's been promising thus far out of training camp, and the sky does appear to be the limit with Okonkwo. MORE: Eagles' Jalen Hurts 'shouldn't have trouble' reaching Hall of Fame if he can continue to have playoff success Last season, Okonkwo put up 56 receptions on 79 targets for 560 yards, all career highs. He also scored two touchdowns, one shy of the three TDs he scored his rookie season. There is some potential with Okonkwo that should make Commanders fans excited, as the fifth-year tight end has shown promise in Tennessee, but could never put it together for a big breakout season. But with Daniels throwing him the ball, and a questionable skill group outside of Terry McLaurin, veteran Diggs and rookie Williams, Okonkwo could be in store for a big season. Kay is already calling Okonkwo a "steal" for the Commanders at $27 million over three years. That deal could look like a fantastic one if he can have a career year, which, all things considered, seems like a very real possibility. More NFL news:
