Von Miller signed with the Washington Commanders right before training camp began last summer. In his 15th NFL season, Miller played in all 17 games for Washington and led the Commanders with nine sacks. Now, Miller has a new team, as he agreed to a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night.
It’s a homecoming for Miller, who grew up in DeSoto, a Dallas suburb, and played collegiately at Texas A&M, where he was a two-time All-American. Miller was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos, where he spent the first 10.5 seasons of his NFL career.
He was traded to the Los Angeles Rams during the 2021 NFL season and helped lead them to a Super Bowl championship, his second championship. In 2022, he signed with the Buffalo Bills, where he’d play for the next three seasons.

With the Commanders, Miller had his best season since 2021, recording nine sacks, which led the team. Washington’s defense dealt with numerous injuries last year and lost its top pass rusher, Dorance Armstrong, for the season in Week 7.
Miller has discussed signing with the Commanders multiple times over the past year, saying he felt he could win a Super Bowl in Washington. He also said quarterback Jayden Daniels was a contributing factor in his decision to choose the Commanders.
Washington made no attempt at retaining Miller. In GM Adam Peters’ mission to get younger and faster, the Commanders moved on from veterans such as Miller, Bobby Wagner, Austin Ekeler and Zach Ertz. Washington added edge rushers Odafe Oweh and K’Lavon Chaisson in free agency and used a fifth-round pick on Joshua Josephs.
Now, Miller will face his old team twice this season.
