Could Missouri State football allow a fan to call plays on the field?

SPRINGFIELD — Casey Woods has been preaching fan engagement since his appointment as Missouri State’s new football coach. He wants Plaster Stadium filled when the Bears take to the field. While Woods loves the Missouri State faithful, he will not be following suit with a fellow Group of Five program.  Two weeks ago, Akron announced that a fan will script the opening offensive drive for the team’s home opener against Robert Morris. To enter, the fan must be a season ticket holder.  Akron’s season ticket sales have erupted, with many high-profile people throwing their hats into the ring. The Zips also announced that 40% of its season-ticket sales have come after the promotion was announced.  When asked if Missouri State could do something similar, Woods laughed, throwing shade at offensive coordinator Mark Cala.  “I’m letting Mark Cala call the first drive,” Woods said with a smile after the team's scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 15. “I’m calling all of the touchdowns and he’s calling the incomplete passes, man.” Missouri State football: Inside the Bears' fall camp scrimmage Missouri State football: Inside J.J.
